Methods of Applying Tyrolean Finish
Tyrolean finish is applied using a special hand-operated or mechanical machine that flicks the render onto the surface.
- Surface Preparation: Ensure the wall surface is clean, free from dust, loose material, and damp. Dampen the surface slightly if it is too dry.
- Mixing: Mix cement, sand, and water (and pigment if used) to a creamy, workable consistency. The mix ratio is typically 1 part cement to 3 parts sand.
- Loading the Machine: Load the Tyrolean machine with the mixed render.
- Application: Hold the machine about 20-30 cm from the wall and rotate the handle to flick the render onto the surface. Apply in even coats, overlapping slightly, to achieve a uniform textured finish.
- Curing: Keep the applied finish damp for at least 3-7 days to allow proper curing of the cement.
Methods of Applying Sandtex Finish
Sandtex is typically applied using a roller, brush, or spray gun, depending on the desired texture and product type.
- Surface Preparation: Clean the surface thoroughly, removing dirt, loose paint, and organic growth. Repair any cracks or defects. Apply a suitable primer if necessary, especially on new or porous surfaces.
- Mixing: Stir the Sandtex thoroughly in its container to ensure even distribution of aggregates and pigments.
- Application: Apply the Sandtex evenly using a roller (for textured finishes), brush (for edges and smaller areas), or spray gun (for large, uniform areas). Apply in one direction, then cross-roll/brush for an even coat.

Causes of Failure in Tyrolean Finishes
