Osun Government Rewards 31 Outstanding Students for Excellent WAEC Performance
The Osun State Government has rewarded 31 outstanding students who excelled in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), as part of efforts to promote academic excellence across the state.
The students received cash prizes of N100,000 each under a partnership initiative between the state government and the Electronic Collections Group (ECG). The programme was designed to encourage students to strive for excellence and inspire better academic performance in schools across Osun State.
Teachers who prepared the students in the nine examination subjects were also rewarded with cash gifts, while schools that produced the award-winning students received educational materials and support items.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony held at Olagunsoye Oyinlola Hall in Osogbo, Governor Ademola Adeleke said the initiative was aimed at raising a generation of students equipped with knowledge, vision, and leadership qualities.
The governor encouraged the beneficiaries to continue aiming higher in their academic pursuits, describing them as shining examples for other students in the state. He added that his administration remains committed to rewarding excellence and supporting quality education from the grassroots level.
Governor Adeleke also praised the efforts of the Ministry of Education, teachers, and school administrators for their contributions toward shaping students into responsible future leaders.
Coordinator of ECG, Akinmade Akintoye, explained that the scholarship and reward programme would become an annual event to motivate students and educators.
According to him, each of the best-performing students from the 30 local government areas received N100,000, while the overall best student in the state was awarded a scholarship worth N1 million under the Imole Scholarship Award programme.
He further revealed that teachers who handled the students in the nine examination subjects received N50,000 each, while schools were given educational support packages to strengthen learning activities.
The list of top-performing students was reportedly provided by the West African Examinations Council headquarters. Organisers noted that the programme reflects the state government’s commitment to improving educational standards and encouraging students to perform better academically.
The Osun State Government also stated that significant reforms have been introduced in the education sector since Governor Adeleke assumed office, leading to improved performance and better rankings for the state in national educational assessments.
