The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a public warning to teachers and other interested applicants about fraudulent online portals claiming to recruit examination supervisors for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal.

According to the examination body, scammers have created fake recruitment websites and are targeting unsuspecting individuals by requesting academic credentials and demanding payments under the pretense of offering supervisor appointments.

In a statement released by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, NECO emphasized that it does not charge any fee for recruiting examination supervisors and urged applicants to avoid dealing with unauthorized platforms.

The council clarified that all recruitment activities for supervisors and assistant supervisors are conducted through its official digital recruitment system. The move is part of ongoing efforts to improve the integrity, efficiency, and transparency of examination administration in Nigeria.

NECO explained that the transition from the former manual recruitment process to a fully electronic system is intended to strengthen examination supervision and reduce irregularities associated with the selection of supervisors.

The examination body further stated that only qualified pensionable teachers on Grade Level 12 and above who are at least 30 years old are eligible to apply as supervisors for the 2026 SSCE Internal examination.

Interested candidates have been advised to submit their applications exclusively through NECO’s official supervisor recruitment portal and to ignore any requests for payment from individuals or third-party organizations.

According to the council, the new automated recruitment system eliminates the need for intermediaries, thereby reducing opportunities for fraud and ensuring a more transparent selection process.

NECO noted that the digital recruitment platform is expected to enhance fairness, improve accountability, and contribute to efforts aimed at reducing examination malpractice across the country.

The council also disclosed that more than 22,000 supervisors will be engaged for the 2026 SSCE Internal examination, which is scheduled to begin on June 15, 2026.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, noting that a transparent recruitment process can help strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s examination system and improve the overall conduct of national examinations.
