    Instructional Materials

    Rationale for the Lesson

    Understanding the environment and our role in protecting it is crucial for enduring living. This lesson lays the foundation for future learning about environmental responsibility.


    Prerequisite/Previous Knowledge

    pupils are familiar with their immediate surroundings and can identify basic elements of their environment.


    Lesson Content

    Man and His Environment

    The environment includes everything around us: plants, animals, water, and air. Both living and non-living things form our environment. Learn more about the environment here.

    Concept of Man as Both Male and Female Humans

    “Man” refers to all humans – boys, girls, men, and women. Everyone shares responsibility for environmental care.

    How Man Relates with His Environment

    We interact with our environment daily. Planting trees, recycling, and even walking to school are ways we care for our environment.

    Protecting the Environment

    Protecting the environment involves actions that prevent pollution and conserve natural resources.

    Examples of ways to protect the environment are:

    1. Planting trees to increase oxygen and reduce carbon dioxide.
    2. Recycling materials like paper, plastic, and glass to reduce waste.
    3. Conserving water by fixing leaks and using water wisely.
    4. Reducing energy consumption by turning off lights and using energy-efficient appliances.
    5. Proper waste disposal to prevent pollution of land and water.
    6. Participating in community clean-up exercises to keep the environment tidy.
    7. Using reusable bags instead of plastic bags when shopping.
    8. Supporting eco-kind products and practices.
