Rationale for the Lesson

Prerequisite/Previous Knowledge

The teacher will start by asking pupils what games they play during break time.the teacher will then introduce the concept of “local games” as customary games played in their community.

Examples Of Local Games

Local games are traditional games played within a specific community. In Nigeria, these games are frequently enough passed down through generations, are simple to learn, and are fun for everyone.

Examples are:

  1. Do as I Do: One person performs actions, others copy.
  2. Clap Over Your Head: Clapping over the head following a rhythm or pattern.
  3. Who is in the garden: A guessing game where one child hides.
  4. Elastics (Skipping Game): jumping over an elastic band.
  5. Musical Chairs: children walk around chairs, sitting when music stops.
  6. Ayo (Mancala): A traditional board game involving strategic movement of seeds.
  7. Hide and Seek (boju-Boju): A classic game of hiding and finding.
