The Ebonyi State Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has announced Monday, September 7, 2026, as the official resumption date for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The directive covers schools across the state and signals the beginning of academic activities for the new session.

According to a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Education (Primary and Secondary), Dr. Donatus Ilang, the resumption date applies to all approved public, private, and faith-based nursery, primary, and secondary schools across Ebonyi State’s 13 Local Government Areas.

Schools Expected to Resume on September 7

School administrators, teachers, and non-teaching staff are expected to report to their respective schools on Monday, September 7, to prepare for the commencement of academic activities.

For boarding students, the ministry directed that they return to their school hostels on Sunday, September 6, 2026, ahead of the official resumption date.

Parents and guardians have also been advised to ensure that their children and wards return to school on time and are properly prepared in accordance with the requirements and standards of their respective schools.

Private Schools Must Follow Approved Calendar

The ministry further directed proprietors and administrators of private schools to operate in line with the approved Ebonyi State school calendar, national curriculum and other operational guidelines issued by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The directive is intended to ensure uniformity and proper coordination of academic activities across schools in the state.

Ministry to Monitor Compliance

To ensure that schools comply with the resumption directive, the ministry said monitoring teams would be deployed across Ebonyi State from the first day of resumption.

The monitoring exercise will focus on ensuring that schools adhere to government directives and begin the new academic session as scheduled.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to Education

Dr. Ilang reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru to improving the quality of education in Ebonyi State.

According to the commissioner, the administration’s efforts are being guided by the People’s Charter of Needs agenda, with education remaining an important part of its development priorities.

The ministry also appealed to parents, teachers, school administrators, community leaders and other education stakeholders to cooperate with the government in ensuring a smooth and productive beginning to the 2026/2027 academic session.

With the September 7 resumption date now announced, schools, parents and students across Ebonyi State are expected to make the necessary preparations for the new academic year.
