Three suspects have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command following an alleged machete attack on an 18-year-old student of Government Day Secondary School, Miri.

The incident reportedly occurred on July 15, 2026, when the student was returning home through the Birindi Sabon Kauran Lafiyari area of Bauchi.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the victim’s father reported the incident at the ‘B’ Division Police Headquarters in GRA, Bauchi. Preliminary investigations indicate that two men, armed with machetes, allegedly intercepted the student and questioned him before one of them attacked him, inflicting a deep cut on his left hand.

Police officers responded promptly and rushed the injured student to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that the student is in stable condition.

Following the victim’s identification of those involved, investigators arrested three suspects identified as Aliyu Abubakar (23), Mubarak Muhammad (18), and Salisu Abubakar, also known as “Ustas” (22). All three are residents of Wuntin Dada in Bauchi.

The police also recovered dangerous weapons believed to be connected to the alleged attack during the investigation.

Meanwhile, three additional suspects identified as Ismail (alias Matsala), Abba Sarkin Fawa, and Sagir (alias Kwalba) remain on the run. Security operatives have launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend them.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the attack and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.

He also ordered that the arrested suspects be prosecuted after investigations are completed, while urging parents, school administrators, and community members to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around schools and residential areas.

The police further appealed to members of the public with useful information about the fleeing suspects to assist law enforcement by reporting to the nearest police station.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety and security of students both within and outside school environments.
