Thousands of students across Nigeria have gained valuable financial knowledge through a nationwide financial literacy campaign organized by 9ijakids in partnership with Access Bank as part of the Global Money Week (GMW) 2026 celebration.
The initiative was designed around the Global Money Week 2026 theme, “Smart Money Talks,” which encourages young people to discuss financial matters openly, develop healthy money habits, and make informed financial decisions from an early age.
During the campaign, students learned practical lessons on money management, including the importance of saving, budgeting, planning before spending, and understanding the difference between needs and wants. These skills are intended to help young learners build a strong foundation for responsible financial behavior throughout their lives.
To extend the impact of the programme, 9ijakids and Access Bank reached students in more than 100 schools across 10 states in Nigeria. In addition, approximately 100 teachers received specialized training to enable them to continue teaching financial literacy concepts in their respective schools even after Global Money Week ended.
The organizers used interactive learning sessions to help students understand that financial literacy is not only for adults but is an essential life skill that can be developed during childhood. Through discussions, activities, and practical examples, learners were encouraged to think critically about money and its role in achieving future goals.
Speaking on the initiative, Co-founder of 9ijakids, Titi Adewusi, emphasized the importance of introducing financial education at an early age. She noted that children can develop a better understanding of wealth creation and financial responsibility when they are exposed to the right knowledge and guidance.
According to her, helping children shift their mindset from spending money impulsively to thinking about saving and investing demonstrates the transformative power of quality financial education.
The programme also highlighted the importance of making financial education simple, engaging, and relevant to everyday experiences. Through school-based learning activities, students gained a better understanding of money management and how financial decisions can affect their future.
Teachers who participated in the programme praised its impact on students. A teacher from Nuco Secondary School in Akwa Ibom State, Bassey Asuatang Effiong, described the initiative as both engaging and beneficial, expressing confidence that the lessons would encourage students to make smarter financial choices.
As financial literacy continues to gain attention globally, initiatives such as this demonstrate the value of equipping young people with practical money management skills that can contribute to their personal and economic success in the future.
