No fewer than 10,000 teachers across Nigeria have registered for the upcoming Professional Qualifying Examination organised by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. The examination is scheduled to take place from May 14 to 16, 2026, under Batch A.

The Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN, Ronke Soyombo, disclosed that the high number of registrations highlights the increasing acceptance of the council’s digital platform for teacher registration and licensing nationwide.

The TRCN digital portal, launched in September 2025 with the support of the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, represents a major step toward modernising teacher certification processes in Nigeria. The platform was designed to simplify registration, improve transparency, and enhance efficiency across the education sector.

Soyombo acknowledged that some users experienced challenges during the early stages of the portal’s rollout. She explained that these issues were largely due to heavy traffic, increased demand, system upgrades, and the transition from manual to digital processes.

According to her, the situation has since improved significantly, with the portal now operating smoothly and efficiently. She noted that the successful registration of over 10,000 teachers serves as clear evidence of the platform’s effectiveness and reliability.

The TRCN boss further emphasized that the digital portal remains the only approved and transparent channel for teacher registration, licensing, and certification in the country. She added that the initial challenges were part of a normal adjustment phase and not a failure of the system.

She also commended teachers across Nigeria for their patience and cooperation during the transition period, assuring them that continuous improvements are being made to strengthen the platform.

In addition, the council clarified that it has never authorised any bank or third party to sell registration forms. All registrations are carried out exclusively through the official TRCN portal, a measure aimed at ensuring transparency and preventing fraudulent practices.
