Lesson Content

How To Grow Crops; Post Planting Activities

After planting crops, there are several important activities we must carry out to ensure our crops grow well. These activities include watering, mulching, and supplying.

Watering: This means giving water to our crops to help them grow. Water is essential because it provides the moisture that plants need to absorb nutrients from the soil. We should water our crops regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep them healthy.

Mulching: Mulching involves covering the soil around our crops with materials like dry leaves or straw. This helps to keep the soil moist, prevent weeds from growing, and protect the plants from extreme temperatures. By mulching, we can reduce the amount of water we need to give our crops and keep them healthy.

Supplying: Sometimes, some of the plants we plant may die or not grow well. Supplying is the process of replacing these weak or dead plants with new ones to ensure that we have a full crop. This helps to maximize our harvest and ensure that we don’t have empty spaces in our garden.

Lesson Evaluation:

To evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:

  1. Explain why it is important to water crops regularly.
  2. Describe the process of mulching and its benefits.
  3. What does “supplying” mean in the context of crop growing?
  4. Why is it important to replace weak or dead plants?
