    • Whiteboard or chart paper
    • Markers or crayons
    • Pictures of different weather conditions
    • Sample weather table

    Rationale for the Lesson

Understanding weather is crucial for daily life, helping us plan activities and stay safe. This lesson builds a foundation for future science topics and promotes awareness of the surroundings.

    Prerequisite/Previous Knowledge

Pupils have likely experienced different types of weather and can describe basic conditions like sunny, rainy, or cloudy.

    Lesson Content

    What is Weather?

Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a specific time and place. It includes things like temperature, sunshine, rain, wind, and clouds.

    weather Symbols

Weather symbols are used to represent different weather conditions. The following are examples:

    1. Sunny: A sun symbol represents clear, sunny weather.
    2. Partly Cloudy: A sun partially covered by clouds indicates partly cloudy conditions.
    3. Cloudy: cloud symbols represent overcast or cloudy weather.
    4. Mostly Cloudy: A mix of sun and clouds, frequently enough with a raindrop or two.
    5. rainy: Raindrops symbolize rainy weather.
    6. Thunderstorm: A thundercloud with lightning represents a thunderstorm.
    7. tornado: A tornado symbol represents a tornado or tornado watch.
    8. snowy: Snowflakes represent snowy conditions.
    9. Foggy: A fog symbol indicates foggy weather.
    10. Windy: An arrow indicates the direction and strength of the wind.
    11. Hail: A combination of raindrop and snowflake symbols represents hail.

some of these symbols are similar to other symbols.

    Keeping weather Records

A weather table is a chart that tracks weather changes over time. It includes information like the date, temperature, wind speed, precipitation, and cloud cover.

    Weather Forecast

A weather forecast predicts future weather. Weather forecasters use weather data and computer models to make these predictions.

    Weather Factors

Several factors affect weather. These include:

    1. Temperature: The air’s temperature is a key factor.
    2. humidity: The amount of moisture in the air.
    3. Air pressure: The weight of the air pressing down on the Earth’s surface.
    4. Wind: The movement of air from high to low pressure areas.
    5. Precipitation: Any form of water falling from clouds (rain, snow, sleet, hail).
    6. cloud Cover: The amount and type of clouds in the sky.
    7. Sunlight: The amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth’s surface.

    Teaching Methods

To deliver this lesson,‌ ⁤the teacher will⁤ adopt⁤ the following methods: Discussion, Question and answer, Presentation, Group work.

    Instructional Procedures

To deliver this lesson, the teacher will adopt the following steps:

    Step 1: Introduction

    Time: 5 minutes
    Teaching Skill: Set Induction
Teacher’s Activity: Ask pupils about their experiences with different weather conditions.
Pupils’ Activity: Share their experiences and observations.

Step 2: Explanation of Key Concepts

    Time: 10 minutes
    Teaching Skill: Explanation
Teacher’s Activity: explain the concept of weather and its components.
Pupils’ Activity: Listen attentively and ask clarifying questions.

    Step 3: Exhibition/Guided Practice

    Time: 10 minutes
    Teaching Skill: Demonstration
Teacher’s Activity: Show pictures of different weather symbols and explain their meanings. Demonstrate how to create a weather table.
Pupils’ Activity: Observe and participate in the demonstration.

    Step 4: self-reliant Practice

    Time: 5 minutes
    Teaching Skill: Guided Practice
teacher’s Activity: Guide pupils in creating their own weather tables.
Pupils’ activity: Work individually or in pairs to create weather tables.

    Step 5: Note-Taking

    Time: 5 minutes
    Teaching Skill: Note-Taking
Teacher’s activity: Guide pupils in taking notes on key concepts.
pupils’ Activity: Write down notable information.

    Step 6: Evaluation/Review

    Time: 5 minutes
    Teaching Skill: Questioning
Teacher’s Activity: Ask questions to assess pupils’ understanding.
Pupils’ Activity: answer questions and participate in the review.

    Step 7: Conclusion

    Time: 2 minutes
    Teaching skill: Summarization
Teacher’s Activity: Summarize the key concepts of weather and its importance.
Pupils’ Activity: Listen to the summary and ask any remaining questions.

    Lesson Keywords

    • Weather – The state of the atmosphere at a specific time and place.
    • Temperature – How hot or cold the air is.
    • Humidity – the amount of moisture in the air.
    • Weather Symbols – Visual representations of weather conditions.
    • Weather Forecast – Prediction of future weather conditions.
    • Weather Table – A chart for recording weather data over time.

    Lesson Evaluation

to evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:

    1. Name three weather symbols and what they represent.
    2. How do we use a weather table to keep weather records?
    3. Why is understanding weather important in our daily lives?

    Assignment/Homework

    1. Create a simple weather table to record the weather for the next week.
    2. Draw and label five different weather symbols.
    3. Write a short paragraph explaining why it is indeed critically important to know the weather forecast.

    Differentiation

    • for slower learners: Provide one-on-one assistance and use simpler language.
    • For advanced learners: Encourage them to research and present additional information on weather phenomena like monsoons or harmattan.
    • For visual/auditory/kinesthetic learners: Use visual aids, verbal explanations, and hands-on activities like creating weather instruments.

    Note for Teachers

Encourage pupils to observe the weather daily and relate it to their activities. Use local examples and stories to make the lesson more engaging and relevant.
