Subject: Basic Science And Technology
Curriculum Theme: Basic Science
Previous Lesson: Meaning And Examples Of
Topic: Effects of Force
Content/Learning Area: Effects of Force
Time Allocation: 40 minutes

Performance Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils shoudl be able to:

  • Cognitive Domain: Explain the effects of force in daily life.
  • Affective Domain: Show interest and attention during the demonstration of force effects.
  • Psychomotor Domain: Demonstrate how force can change the position of objects.
  • Social Domain: Work in groups to discuss and identify the effects of force on different objects.

reference Materials

The following resources were used in planning this lesson:

Instructional Materials

To deliver this lesson, the teacher will employ the help of the following materials:

  • A chair or desk for demonstration.
  • A ball.
  • A rubber band.
  • A notebook.
  • A whiteboard and markers.

Rationale for the Lesson

Understanding the effects of force helps pupils grasp how objects move, stop, or change shape, which is important in daily life for tasks like playing sports, opening doors, and other mechanical activities.

Prerequisite/previous Knowledge

Pupils already understand the meaning and examples of force and can relate it to pushing or pulling objects.

Lesson content

Effects Of force

Force is a push or pull on an object. It can have various effects. These include:

  1. Force can make an object move: Such as, when you push a chair, it starts moving.
  2. force can stop a moving object: For instance, catching a ball in motion stops its movement.
  3. Force can change the direction of an object: Kicking a rolling ball can make it change direction.
  4. Force can change the shape of an object: stretching a rubber band shows how force changes its shape.
  5. Force can increase or decrease the speed of an object: Pushing a swing harder increases its speed.

Teaching Methods

To deliver this lesson,‌ ⁤the teacher will⁤ adopt⁤ the following methods: Interactive teaching, discussion, Demonstration, Experiential learning, Collaborative learning, questioning, Observation, direct instruction, Guided writng.

Instructional Procedures

To deliver this lesson, the teacher will adopt the following steps:

Step 1: Introduction

Time: 5 mins
Teaching Skill: Set Induction
Teacher’s Activity: Introduce the topic by asking pupils what they recall about force.
Pupils’ Activity: Answer questions and recall the meaning of force.

Step 2: Clarification of Effects of Force

Time: 10 mins
Teaching skill: Interactive teaching
Teacher’s Activity: Explain the effects of force with examples and demonstration.
Pupils’ Activity: Listen attentively and observe the demonstrations.

Step 3: Demonstration of Effects of Force

Time: 10 mins
Teaching skill: Demonstration
Teacher’s Activity: Demonstrate effects of force using materials like a ball, rubber band, and chair.
Pupils’ Activity: observe and participate in demonstrations.

Step 4: Note-Taking

Time: 5 mins
Teaching Skill: Guided writing
Teacher’s Activity: Guide pupils to copy notes into their exercise books.Pupils’ Activity: Copy notes neatly into exercise books.

Step 5: Group Activity

Time: 5 mins
Teaching Skill: Group work
Teacher’s activity: Group pupils to identify effects of force in different objects.
Pupils’ Activity: Discuss and list examples in groups.

Step 6: Evaluation/Review

Time: 3 mins
Teaching Skill: Oral questioning
Teacher’s Activity: ask questions to assess understanding of the topic.
Pupils’ Activity: Answer questions to show understanding.

Step 7: Conclusion

Time: 2 mins
Teaching Skill: Summary
Teacher’s Activity: Summarize the lesson and link it to practical examples.
Pupils’ Activity: Listen and ask questions for clarification.

Lesson Keywords

  • Force – A push or pull on an object.
  • Motion – The act or process of moving.
  • Shape – The external form or appearance of somthing.
  • Speed – The rate at which someone or something moves.
  • Direction – A course along which someone or something moves.

Lesson Evaluation

to evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:

  1. Define force and explain its effects.
  2. List five effects of force with examples.
  3. Demonstrate how force can change the shape of an object.
  4. explain how force can increase or decrease speed.

Assignment/Homework

  1. give three examples of how force affects objects around yoru home.
  2. Explain how force is used in sports.
  3. Describe a situation where force changes the direction of an object.

Differentiation

  • for slower learners: Provide simpler examples and hands-on activities with direct supervision.
  • For advanced learners: Challenge them to research different types of forces and their effects.
  • For visual/auditory/kinesthetic learners: Use visual aids, verbal explanations, and physical demonstrations to cater to different learning styles.

Note for Teachers

Feel free to use everyday objects to make the demonstration relatable for pupils. Ensure active participation by asking questions throughout the lesson. Encourage pupils to share their observations during group activities. Happy teaching!
