- Growth Rate: Softwoods generally grow faster than hardwoods.
- Density: Hardwoods are generally denser and harder than softwoods, though there are exceptions (e.g., Balsa is a hardwood but very soft).
- Cell Structure: Hardwoods have complex pore structures (vessels) for water transport, visible as pores, while softwoods have simpler cell structures (tracheids).
