Lesson Content/Board Summary

Correct Sitting & Standing Postures

What is Posture?

Posture is the way we hold our body when we sit, stand, or lie down. Good posture makes us look strong and helps our body stay healthy.

Correct Sitting Posture

When we sit, we should:
  • Sit with our back straight, touching the back of the chair.
  • Keep our feet flat on the floor.
  • Relax our shoulders.
  • Keep our head up, looking forward.

Correct Standing Posture

When we stand, we should:
  • Stand tall and straight.
  • Pull our shoulders back gently.
  • Keep our head up, looking straight ahead.
  • Keep our feet slightly apart, not too close or too wide.

Posture Rhyme

Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Lyrics:

Sit up straight, stand up tall,
Good posture for one and all.
Back is straight, head is high,
Like a soldier in the sky.
Sit up straight, stand up tall,
Good posture for one and all.

Actions: For “sit up straight,” pupils sit up straight. For “stand up tall,” they stand tall. For “back is straight,” they pat their back. For “head is high,” they lift their chin. Mimic a soldier standing tall.

💡 Teacher Guide for Using This Board Summary

How to teach the content: Explain posture using simple language and demonstrate each point clearly. Use the pictures to show examples of good and bad posture, asking pupils to identify the correct ones. Emphasize that good posture helps them feel strong and healthy.

What to show or demonstrate: Physically demonstrate the correct sitting posture (back straight, feet flat, shoulders relaxed, head up) and the correct standing posture (stand tall, shoulders back, head up, feet slightly apart). Exaggerate incorrect postures briefly to highlight the difference.

How to use the rhyme/song: Introduce the “Posture Rhyme” after demonstrating both sitting and standing. Sing it together several times, encouraging pupils to perform the actions as they sing. Use it as a fun way to reinforce the lesson throughout the day.

How to use the video: Introduce the video as a fun way to learn more about good posture. Play the video and encourage pupils to sing along and perform the actions shown. After watching, ask pupils what they learned from the video and have them practise the movements again.

What to watch for: Observe if pupils are trying to imitate the correct postures. Look for common mistakes like slumping, crossing legs, or hunching shoulders. Provide gentle corrections and positive reinforcement.
